Information for Youth 19-21 Seeking a 2010 Summer Job

This program has not yet been officially authorized. Further information will be posted here as it becomes available.

  1. Q: How much will I earn and how will I get paid?
A: Youth will be paid $7.25 an hour. Your pay will be deposited to an account. Separate instructions on how to apply for the bank account will be provided at a later date. You will be paid for the hours recorded on your timesheet. Payments are deposited every two weeks. During training, you will receive a schedule of the deposit weeks.

  2. Q: How do I qualify for a summer job?
A: You must be a Broward County resident between the ages of 19-21, and meet eligibility requirements, including the income of your family. Other eligibility requirements may apply.

  3. Q: Are there other requirements?
A: Yes. All youth invited to participate in the program will be required to attend the SYEP 2010 Employability Training Workshops [dates to be determined]. Attendance is mandatory for all three workshops. You will be paid for attendance, and you must attend on each date. These workshops will discuss topics that will help you have a successful summer work experience. To be admitted to the workshop, you must have submitted (to WF1) all of the completed forms that were mailed to you in your SYEP Packet, including a signed Social Security Card and a valid Florida Identification Card or valid Florida Driver’s License. Your packet will include the dates for you to bring all documents to the WF1 office. Depending upon your job assignment, WF1 may need to conduct a background check. If the background check identifies any concerns, WF1 will contact you.

  4. Q: What types of jobs do you have available?
A: In the past, jobs have included clerical, child care assistant, camp counselor, park aide, custodial, game room aide assistant, library page and teacher assistant. WF1 tries to match you with your job preference, and takes into consideration where you live. However, there is no guarantee of where you will be assigned.

  5. Q: What are the dates of the summer program?
A: The Summer Youth Employment Program will run for 8 weeks. Jobs are limited to 6-hours per day, and 30-hours per week. The specific hours that you will work will depend on your individual Worksite assignment.

  6. Q: How can I participate?
A: This program has not yet been officially authorized. Further information will be posted here as it becomes available.

  7. Q: How long will it be until I hear from you after I submit my application?
A: All applicants will receive notification by mail once the selection process is complete.
